- Tax-ticket search or payment: use the online tax inquiry service linked from the county site. Its exact fields and payment charges were not confirmed in the research; verify them with the tax office or provider.
- Delinquent land certified to the state: use the West Virginia State Auditor's County Collections search. McDowell-specific additional amounts may require direct confirmation with the Auditor.
- Records held by a city: contact Welch, War or Iaeger directly for municipal permits, ordinances, street records or zoning material. No public permit or zoning search was found for these cities.
- Records not online: send a specific written request to the custodian under the West Virginia Freedom of Information Act, W. Va. Code ยง29B-1-3. A response is due as soon as practicable and within five days, excluding weekends and legal holidays, by production, inspection appointment or written denial.
